Female food and farming leaders take on GROW for Good challenge

The countdown begins for the GROW for Good Challenge. A team of passionate women from the UK food and farming industry is preparing to embark on an inspiring journey across Embu County and Nairobi in Kenya, from 21 to 25 October.

This unique challenge will see the participants cycling 75 kilometres over three days, working alongside female farmers taking part in Farm Africa’s regenerative agriculture project and camping under the stars – all in support of Farm Africa’s mission.

After their days on the farms, the team will gather in Nairobi for the GROW for Good Roundtable event. There, they will join forces with other leading women from the food and farming industry to develop actionable strategies for improving the role and opportunities for women in the global food system.

The GROW for Good Challenge, which stands for Growing Resilience and Opportunities for Women, aims to raise £75,000 to support Farm Africa’s work across eastern Africa.

Farm Africa’s projects equip smallholder farmers, with a priority on women farmers, with the skills and resources they need to build sustainable livelihoods in the face of climate change.

Opportunities to sponsor

Farm Africa is inviting both corporate and individual sponsors to support the challenge. Corporate sponsorship packages are available, offering unique opportunities for brand exposure across social media, event materials and even a virtual farm tour in Embu County. These partnerships not only help Team GROW to reach their fundraising goals, but also provide businesses with a powerful platform to showcase their commitment to sustainability and women’s empowerment.

Judith Batchelar, Chair of the GROW for Good Committee, commented:

“The GROW for Good challenge will raise funds that will make a tangible difference to the lives of female farmers and their families across eastern Africa. Just as importantly, it will raise awareness of how when women have more economic opportunities, it helps whole communities to grow and prosper. This initiative also marks the ten year anniversary of our first trip to Kenya to dig an Olympic sized fish pond with women Tilapia producers, those aquaculture businesses are still generating important income today, these are projects with a real legacy.

“We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm and dedication from our committee and participants. We welcome any support from companies and individuals committed to empowering women to increase their incomes by farming in harmony in nature.”
