Fundraising day at Little Hidden Farm

FARM-Africa's Tessa and Cathy with Bill AcworthBill and Susan Acworth opened their beautiful farm to the local community on Sunday for an activity day to raise funds for Farm Africa. The day started with a guided walk through Little Hidden Farm where Bill delighted the group with anecdotes, local historical facts and an impressive knowledge of the plants and animals around the farm.

Locally produced food, including crayfish from the river Kennett and pizzas cooked in the wood fired oven was enjoyed by all.  After lunch, workshops including African drumming, woodwork, natural wool dyeing and clay oven making were popular with children and adults alike.

“The reason Farm Africa appeals to me is the practical nature of the projects on the ground and the fact that it’s not all about financial aid, but about the transfer of knowledge to the farming communities who are involved right from the start and who can eventually run the projects themselves creating long term change.”

“The open day at Little Hidden Farm is popular and enjoyable because it’s informal and provides something for all ages. I must stress that it’s a team effort – we have help from the local Scout group and from many other people in the community who help with stewarding, collecting donations and of course producing the fabulous lunch.”

Bill has supported Farm Africa for over 15 years and has held a farm open day at Little Hidden Farm five times. This weekend’s event was attended by around 150 people and has raised over £1,000 for the charity’s work in eastern Africa.

“Bill and Sue’s ongoing commitment to Farm Africa’s work is really inspiring, and it has been wonderful to come to Little Hidden Farm today to be part of this great day involving so many people from the community. This kind of support is really important to us – not only has Bill raised lots of money today, he has also brought Farm Africa’s work closer to people in his local area.” Cathy Whiteman, Farm Africa’s Head of Community & Events Fundraising.
