Farm Africa is an international charity working to build a resilient rural Africa where people and the environment thrive.

Just as our projects vary, so does our expertise. We are proud to have a team brimming with experts, from agriculture to gender to coffee specialists.

Many of our colleagues have extensive academic knowledge and practical experience in their fields and are typically from the local area, can speak the local language, and have a deep understanding of the local context.

What it’s like to work at Farm Africa

At Farm Africa, there is a wide variety of average working days. Our project coordinators visit rural communities at least three times a week, working with farmers on each step of the project, delivering training sessions in anything from climate-smart agriculture to access to finance and discussing issues they are facing.

They meet with local governments to boost their capacity, influence policy and ensure our projects’ activities are sustainable long-term.

"The best part of my job is creating a supportive environment for women's social empowerment programmes. I love motivating more women to get involved in agriculture and entrepreneurship. It's incredibly rewarding to see women take up leadership roles and actively participate in agricultural activities. Plus, I'm blessed to work with awesome colleagues who share Farm Africa's values."

Our monitoring, learning and evaluation team is dedicated to drilling down into the quality of our programmes. They review their efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability and data quality and identify lessons and key learnings, ensuring we can be proud of our projects.

For our technical team, days are spent providing expert knowledge and developing ways to collaborate with different partners, while our funding teams work with institutional donors, companies, trusts and foundations to raise much-needed funds to make our work happen.

Mary Kimani

Data clerk, Regenerative agriculture project

"Working with farmers and seeing them succeed is my favourite part of the job. Plus I like being a farmer! I think the regenerative agriculture project is the way to go for every farmer in the world. The population is increasing, the land is not and it is getting degraded, so there will be a gap. But regenerative agriculture is the way out of the effects of climate change and food insecurity. It creates employment for people. People's livelihoods are improved. So it's an all-round system that is very sustainable."

Grace Changamike

Field officer, Boosting sorghum production in a changing climate project

"I like working with young people. I'm very excited because it's my passion. I can inspire them.

I like to build up and to empower women in the issue of financial inclusion. I just try to empower them. They should know about market access. So I'm happy to emphasise my fellow woman. And actually, the women are very comfortable to work with me because we are the same, woman."

Asaye Asnake

Programme support manager

"At Farm Africa, we are deeply concerned with environmental protection.

We want to make sure that we’re reducing poverty for the communities we work with for the long term – and that means helping farmers to secure bigger profits, while also protecting unique ecosystems and natural resources for generations to come."

Dr Diana Onyango

Head of Technical Team

"I enjoy learning new things and expanding my knowledge. My background and education is in livestock and rangeland management but since joining Farm Africa, I have learnt a lot about climate-smart agriculture.

I hope to see Farm Africa expanding our work and increasing our projects so that we can engage with more communities in the region."

Caroline Asiimwe

Technical manager, markets and value chains

"Being an agribusiness expert and active promoter of climate-smart agriculture, I am exposed to the harsh realities of the diverse effects of climate change on smallholder coffee farming systems.

There is a pressing need for innovations that drive creation of a resilient and prosperous coffee system. An integrated approach is needed."

Teshome Nega

Project coordinator, Urban agriculture

"Investing in urban agriculture can create resilient communities, improve access to healthy food, transform lives and regreen cities."

Patrick Nyaga

Project coordinator, Regenerative agriculture

"I’m a trained agronomist with over 18 years working with smallholder farmers. When I saw an advert on regenerative agriculture by Farm Africa, it was an exciting opportunity for my personal career growth, especially in the areas of agriculture, business and environment that Farm Africa is involved. And an opportunity to share my knowledge with the organisation and farmers and develop the village-based advisor business model in advancing the regenerative agriculture knowledge and practices."

Samuel Arop

Country Representative, Uganda

"Seeing the people I support succeeding gives me a lot of job satisfaction. The energy that the staff have on the ground is really great. They are very committed to Farm Africa and to the farmers we are working with.

I feel very proud to be working with them; this is the place to be!"
